Jail is not the best place to start in life, but that's where an infant baby found himself when he made his entry into the world on Saturday morning, after his mother went into labor at the Gwinnett County Detention Center. The 30-year-old inmate's labor progressed so quickly, jail medical staff had to usher in the unexpected addition to the inmate population. He was born in just 17 minutes, according to Stacey Bourbonnais, spokeswoman for the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department. Paramedics arrived soon after the delivery and transported mother and son to the hospital. The infant later was released to his mother's family. The inmate has since returned to the jail. Bourbonnais said she could not release the mother's name because of federal patient privacy laws. She was in jail for a probation violation, Bourbonnais said.
